Since I have been using this turmeric powder soap! I have noticed my skin is glowing so bright I was worried I may be pregnant! My skin has been looking so supple I had to share my turmeric soap recipe with you. Of course, this is a beginner’s soap recipe so all the oils we are using are from the grocery store. If you would like to use lard go ahead and switch out the shortening for lard. But this recipe is pretty much vegan and easy to make. You can double up the recipe if you like, but you will be amazed by the benefits of the soap and how great your skin will look.
CAUTION FIRST: Suit up for safe handling practices. That means goggles, gloves, and long sleeves. Make sure kids, pets, other distractions, and tripping hazards are out of the house or don’t have access to your soaping space. Always soap in a well-ventilated area.
Turmeric Powder Cold Process Soap Recipe:
10 oz. Shortening (I used soybean)
5 oz. Olive oil
1.92 oz. Lye
4.95 oz. Distilled water
2-3 tbsps. Turmeric powder
1-2 tbsps. Peanut oil
1.32 oz Orange Essential oil
Turmeric Cold Process Soap Recipe Directions:
- Slowly add lye to distilled water and gently stir until lye has completely dissolved and cooled. Set aside
- In another container add peanut oil and turmeric powder mix and set aside.
- In a microwave safe container melt shortening and olive oil until dissolved in the microwave for about 3 minutes. I did this in 40 second intervals. Oils should be 120-130 degrees.
- Once the lye water and the oils have cooled to 120-130 degrees (this temperature is perfect for the oils as well) add the lye water to the oils and stick blend the mixture to a thin trace.
- Add essential oil and turmeric powder mixture and stick blend to medium trace.
- Make sure ingredients are completely combined. The trace may get thicker like pudding, that’s fine.
- Pour soap in soap mold and let sit for 1-3 days or until soap has become hard.
