DIY Toothpaste Boxes!
Earth day was last week but for the whole month I have been recycling and upcycling all my material possessions. One thing I have been doing is swapping clothes that I don’t need with a few friends of mine. I also have been using old egg shells and scrapings to make compost for my garden. I truly enjoyed participating in the #LessWasteChallenge by Toms of Maine and Target. If your wondering what the #LessWasteChallenge was about let me give you a brief explanation. For the whole month of April you had a goal of reducing one pound of waste each week. I will say about week three I was able to reduce two pounds of waste for that week.
With all the recycling project I have going on I decided to do an upcycle project using Tom’s of Maine toothpaste. I was pleasantly surprised to see that my favorite one was on sell at Target. Thanks to the cartwheel deals I found on the app I was able to save a few extra coins on the Tom’s of Maine toothpaste, so I got a few more that I could only find at Target to try. Now I know your wondering what type of upcycling project I can do with Tom’s of Maine toothpaste?? Well I am about to show you! Well we are not going to throw away those toothpaste boxes because they can make a wonderful DIY. But before we start our DIY Tom’s of Maine and Terra Cycle work together in finding places where you can recycle all your used up Tom’s of Maine products. So once your done with your boxes remember Terra Cycle and Tom’s of Maine wants you to recycle them, so you can waste less.
Now let me show you how you can turn your Tom’s of Maine toothpaste boxes into gift boxes for party favors for your next get together.
What you will need:
Paint (I used Acrylic)
Glue (I used Modge Podge)
Foam Brushes or Paint Brushes
Glitter or Sprinkles
Tissue paper
Pens, Markers, Candies and Tom’s of Maine Natural toothpaste (optional)
Tom’s of Maine Toothpaste Boxes (that you didn’t throw away)
Now let’s get started you want to glue the open tabs inside the box and begin painting the boxes any color you like. My choice of colors were pin and white for the first two and then silver for the third box. However for all three boxes I did start off with a white base of acrylic paint.
Let the first coat of paint dry and apply three more coats of paint to the box (letting each coat dry before you put on the next coat). Once your paint has dried apply your glue to half the box and begin to add glitter. Once the glitter has dried add another coat of glue and glitter. I did this process three times as well.
Once your party boxes have dried overnight place tissue paper inside the box and then add your pen, markers candies and Toms of Maine Toothpaste for the perfect gift or party favor.
To be honest I think the box is the star of the show, but everyone loves a good gift inside!
