Being able to see Snowcap Mountains as you’re driving to the grocery store is an amazing thing, but it’s uncommon here in the valley of the sun. So when Josh called me and ask did I want to go and see the snow!!! I was so excited that I would be able to touch snow for the first time!! Living in L.A most of my life I have become immune to the sun and dread all things cold. Honestly if temps dip anywhere below 40 degrees I began to shiver like a tiny wet dog that just got a bath. The drive into the mountains was pretty long and since I am a city girl, not a country girl. I thought I was going to die every time we time we made a sharp turn! My heart would drop into my stomach, I had a few panic attacks and I could have really used a sedative. Since I didn’t have one I closed my eyes and prayed Josh would slow down so we would not go flying off the mountain. I am not a fan of roller coasters, so driving up a mountain felt like one big roller coaster on steroids (if you’re not a fan of roller coasters you know what I mean).
Well after an hour I began to feel all hope was lost and I was sick of going up the tiny road on a mountain, but just before my patience ran out. I began to see white ice all over the cactus and desert bushes. I got so excited I wanted to pull over a.s.a.p. and play in the snow, but Josh told me to wait a while. We found a pretty nice spot for us to walk around.
Apparently it was colder then I expected because Josh made me wear 6 layers of clothes (3 shirts and 3 sweats), my jacket, his jacket and a big scarf. With all those layers I had on I was still freezing my but off. I have no real winter clothes and my blood is so thin that I was exhausted from shivering. My first experience with snow was very cold and wet. I never had an expectation but I thought it would be more of a powder. After getting use to this cold icy feeling, I tried to make a snow man but the snow was melting fast and my hands were turning blue. Next time I have a snow experience I hope it’s the fresh white powder stuff everyone talks about.
