With less then 200 calories this creamy chocolatechip oatmeal is a super satisfying treat
While I am a huge fan of warming oats in the microwave, nothing beats a nice bowl of oats made on the stove. It only takes a few minutes and they’re much creamier then the microwave version. I have no clue what possessed me to make a bowl of oats when it’s almost 95 degrees out. I was in the mood for comfort food, and nothing screams comfort food like a big bowl of rolled oats. I love eating comfort food when it’s warm, hot, or cold outside. Most people tend to lose their appetite when gets too hot. Well not me! Bring on the food any time of the year!
The key to getting your oatmeal a creamy texture is to let the oats bloom! If you have never heard of blooming oats, that’s what I’m here for! The process is similar to blooming yeast, except there is no yeast involved just oats and milk. Let your oats soak in a mixture of milk and other add-ons until the oats soak up most the milk (about 5 minutes). Once the oats double in volume there ready to cook. If you’re a fan of overnight oats you will love blooming your oats. You will get a nice creamy bowl of oats every time!
Chocolate Chip Oatmeal (Single Serving) Recipe:
½ cup rolled oats
2 tbsps. coconut sugar
½ tsp. vanilla extract
1 ¼ cups almond milk
3-4 tbsps. chocolate chips
Recipe Directions: In a medium sauce pan add rolled oats, 1 cup milk, coconut sugar, vanilla extract and stir. Let it bloom. Place sauce pan on a medium heat, add remaining milk and bring oats to a boil. Once the oats began to boil turn the heat down. Let the oats simmer until the mixture thickens. Let cool and stir in chocolate chips.

I am an oatmeal fanatic and eat it all the time, year round! I recently tried chocolate oatmeal. It was kind of crazy but tasted better than I expected. Clearly, I’d love a bowl with some chocolate chips. The only thing I love more than oatmeal is chocolate. : ) This is a nice balanced treat.
