When I first decided to turn my blog into a recipe blog it was honestly on a whim! I had no clue what I was doing (still don’t), but all my readers loved my recipes and would encourage me to start a food blog. This little blog started out as way to document my weight loss journey, and all the struggles (still struggling) that come with losing weight. Now it’s become more than just my rants on gaining and losing weight. It’s a food blog and a little crafting boutique that gives me so much joy. I have gotten a lot of email request to sale my scrubs and bath products online. I never seen it as a big deal! Well all that changed when one reader sent me an email explaining she has no time to be crafty; but wished I had a website where she could purchase some of my skin care products. While I believe we are all savvy naturalista’s. I’m also realistic and understand some of us don’t have time to whip up a body scrub.
If you follow me on face book you know I broke the news about wanting to open an online store. Well after talking with Josh I decided that I would open up a little store selling skin care product for now. The store will be up next week. I will definitely be selling my popular green tea body scrub! I get so many emails from some of you asking to purchase it. It’s not the boutique/bakery I always wanted to open, but it’s a start. Now let’s get to the scrub, coconut oil is the best oil to use in the winter (especially in AZ). It tends to stay solid, and when you add it to body scrubs it gives it a creamy and whipped look. It also keeps the skin hydrated during these harsh dry months.
Black Tea Body Scrub Recipe:
1 ½ cups sugar
1 cup solid coconut oil
2 tbsps. black loose leaf tea
Recipe Directions: In a large bowl mix coconut oil, sugar and tea. Mix until all the ingredients are combined. Once combine store in a air tight container.

I’m not very knowledgable about tea but I do have some black tea in tea bags in my cupboard. Can I just use those if I open up the bags and dump out the tea? This is probably a silly question….. 🙂
Shundara@Savynaturalista says
Oh no! Not at all, of course you can use black tea bags. I have so many recipes using tea bags from the cupboard and they really work wonders on the skin. Enjoy! 🙂
Michelle says
Great! Thanks so much. Can’t wait to make this. 🙂

Do you know about how much this recipe yields?
Shundara@Savynaturalista says
Depending on what type of jars you’re using, I would say 1-2 8 oz. jars, but it can vary the larger or smaller your jars get.. 🙂

Can epson salt be used in lieu of sugar?

I’ve been looking every where for recommendations on what brand of coconut oil to use but haven’t had any luck yet.
Both un/refined is acceptable… I just need to know where to start.
Can you help me out with some suggestions? 🙂
Congrats on your store btw! That’s truly amazing.

Thank you for sharing your great scrub recipes! Being a big scrub enthusiast myself, I thought I’d mention something about sugars. Since there are several choices I started reading more and found that demetra sugar, coconut sugar, along with plain, organic cane sugar is far surperior to the usual refined sugars we find in the “normal” grocery retailers. Trader Joes has these sugars, all for under $5. If you don’t have a Traders, I’m sure another heath food store nearby would have these. It makes such a difference. Thanks for letting me add my 2 cents.

I know this may sound like a stupid question, but do you use food olive oil and coconut oil or the olive and coconut oil used for hair? Or does it make a difference?

Do you have to wipe this off or wash it off? May be a silly question but I was wondering because I really want to try this! Also, how long does it last after making it?
Thanks!
