Cooler weather has brought pecans! Can you believe that we would be able to find pecan trees right here in sunny Arizona! Move over Texas the desert has pecan trees ripe for the picking…
Josh made the discovery last year but forgot where he actually found them, so after riding around for hours we finally found pecan trees and they were ready to be picked! The tricky part about this adventure is the contraption Josh made to get the pecans and the green pod!
Josh waited until I cracked a few open before he tells me that the pod should be slightly open before we can get to the pecans. Next time we go pecan picking I will wear gloves because my nails were so grimy that no amount of washing, scrubbing, and soaking has lifted the dirt. We tried to fill the whole bucket but pecan picking is hard work (no wonder they are so expensive) and I was exhausted. Now it’s time to shell them and create some good ole recipes…

Fun! A pecan tree? I love love love pecans! I can imagine myself sitting out under that tree picking (and eating) pecans until I couldn’t eat a single one more. Seriously, I’d be obsessed! I love the photo – you look so happy, like you’re having so much fun! What a great post – I love the picture story-telling! It makes me feel like I was there. 🙂

When we lived in Austin, our front yard was home to a pecan tree. What fun we had (and what delicious breads and pies!) Your post brought back fond memories. Thank you so much for sharing!
