It is here yes it is here!!!! Tomato season! I am all about the tomatoes; of course most of my tomato plants have died in this desert heat, and most of the growers here do not bother growing them; if they do not have a green room you are probably not getting tomatoes from a farmers market in AZ. Even though you will not see them at the farmers markets, there are plenty of tomatoes at the grocery stores where they pile them up by the loads. They really put on a show for tomatoes and by the time I get there and have finished shopping; I have bought more than my fridge can handle. My favorites so far have been the heirloom and cherry tomatoes. They make a great snack and a mean stir fry. One of my favorite things to do with tomatoes is add a little salt and eat them. So yummy! I have started eaten tomatoes like fresh apples. I am looking forward to making sauces, gravies, stews, cobblers, tarts, pies, pastas, soups and anything with sun dried tomatoes.
This week I found some very intriguing tomatoes. They are called kumato tomatoes and I have no clue what to do with them but I will find something. I have not tried them but I will give you an update on the taste of this tomato and what I think about them. If you see a weird tomato at your grocery store make sure you grab it up and try it, especially with salt.
