I decided to end the summer with a lovely tomato sugar scrub that has a lovely citrus scent, although the sun is bright as ever and I am looking forward to cooler temps, I really enjoyed using tomato sugar scrub this summer. Tomatoes are great for the skin and since they have lycopene, these properties help cool down the skin.
Not only are they great to eat (I do love them) they also go great in your homemade beauty products. There is no need for you to go to an expensive spa to get a tomato scrub treatment when you can do it yourself at home. I am going to give you a few key ingredients too use. Although summer is over if you are in a warm climate the sun is still shining bright.
Tomato sugar scrub is great to put on your skin before you go to the beach or the pool, or for those days where you forgot your sunblock and your skin starts to burn and peel. This scrub is a great way to cool that sun burn down. You can add any essential oils you want; I added lemon and citronella oil (mosquitoes are still on the attack). This scrub should be use within a few days because the water content of the tomato will make the scrub go bad or even ferment. When you make big batches of tomato sugar scrub store in the freezer to keep the sugar scrub from going bad.
Tomato Sugar Scrub Recipe:
2 cups granulated sugar
1 large tomato chopped (I used Roma)
¾ cup oil (I used coconut)
5-20 drops essential oil (I used lemon and citronella)
Recipe Directions: Place sugar in a bowl and set aside; chop tomato very finely until you get it almost too mush. Place the mushy tomato in bowl with sugar and stir, slowly add oil into the bowl and stir; add the drops of essential oil to sugar scrub and stir. Store in an air tight container and place in fridge. Make sure to label your tomato sugar scrub.
